Rudder systems of Damen Marine Components
A rudder system for every vessel type
At Damen Marine Components, we design rudder systems that seamlessly align with our customers’ needs. Our rudders and related equipment are utilised in short-sea shipping (e.g. the Coastal Standard), offshore, fishing and inland navigation (e.g. tankers), as well as on container ships and other oceangoing vessels (e.g. car carriers), dredgers and tugboats and even frigates (e.g. the German Navy) and superyachts (e.g. the Black Shark).
For medium to high-speed vessels, such as container ships and frigates, our full spade rudder systems with Atlantic profile are the industry standard. On the other hand, Master profile rudders are ideal for dredging and fishing vessels to enable high manoeuvrability. Flap rudder types, e.g. ‘Timon’ and ‘Barke’, provide the best performance for both manoeuvring and course stability.
Rudder systems for inland navigation
While all of our rudder systems for sea-going vessels are custom-made, DMC rudders for inland navigation purposes are truly considered the industry benchmark. We prioritise agility, efficiency and sustainability in inland shipping. For propulsion and fuel savings, our three-rudder system remains the best-performing system on narrow and winding waters, in locks and harbour basins.
For tugboats and pushboats, the Flanking rudder is unrivalled in minimising resistance as they can be retracted as desired.
